Sennheiser MKE 200 – Upgrade Your On-Camera Microphone

Sennheiser introduced a new on-camera microphone, the Sennheiser MKE 200. It’s small, light, and the goal is to be an all-in-one microphone.

Have you ever had this experience after a long shooting day: the image looks great, but it’s just hard to understand what people you filmed are saying? Well, most DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and even mobile phones are making astonishing pictures these days, but often it seems like the manufacturers forgot the importance of good quality audio.

As a little brother to the Sennheiser MKE 440, the German audio manufacturer Sennheiser came up with another solution for better audio for cameras – the Sennheiser MKE 200 On-Camera Microphone.

Directional for a Clear Voice

The Sennheiser MKE 200 has a pre-polarized super-cardioid condenser capsule. It provides better focus and more detail when recording voice compared to a cardioid capsule, and a more natural ambient compared to shotgun microphones.

The pre-polarized electret capsule has a convenient size and weight and doesn’t need +48 volt phantom power. Any cameras or mobile phones with a 2 to 10 volts power source can handle this tiny microphone.

All-in-one Design

The Sennheiser MKE 200 is only 69mm x 60mm x 39mm in size and weighs only 48g, it comes with an in-built windscreen and shock-mount.

With the in-built shock mount, it’s very easy to mount the microphone on any camera with hot-shoe or cold-shoe. It comes with one 3.5mm TRS cable for DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Also, a 3.5mm TRRS cable is included for use with mobile phones.

A minor detail of the microphone: the cable is connected to the front side of the microphone with a 3.5mm locking jack, which means that the user isn’t disturbed when using a viewfinder and it’s also a more secure position when you’re in action with your camera. Smart placement!

There is also a furry windscreen in the package for a very windy situation, and a transport pouch for easy storage and transportation.
