Sony has announced the launch of a new smartphone, the Sony Xperia 1 VI. The phone uses AI technology to improve the camera and the display, and it features a new telephoto lens. Let’s take a look at it!
The gap between smartphones and cameras is getting smaller as companies put new technology advancements and AI capabilities in both worlds. The sensor size is now the main difference between the two since many of the features we can find in a camera are now available in top smartphone models like the iPhone 15 Pro or this new Sony Xperia 1 VI.
The first noticeable feature of the Xperia 1 VI is the new telephoto optical zoom lens of up to x7.1, with a versatile focal length covering from 85mm to 170mm. The phone also includes a 24mm lens with an image sensor called ‘Exmor T for mobile’, which ensures good low-light performance, and AI for focus tracking and identifying different human poses. The maximum magnification of approximately 2x and a minimum focus distance of 4cm is helpful for macro photography.
Knowing that we use smartphones more and more for entertainment purposes, Sony has put the “quality of their TVs on the screen”. The Xperia 1 VI display uses AI image adjustment technology powered by BRAVIA. According to Sony, the image quality of the BRAVIA TVs is now reproduced on the phone, and they use AI remastering technology to improve contrast, color, and clarity. The display is 1.5 times brighter than the previous model, and it adjusts the highlights via AI to avoid clipping in real-time.
Sound has also been improved with a new Premium Audio Circuit for 3.5mm wired headphones and a new, improved speaker that reduces the distortion at high volumes and optimizes low-frequency output, increasing the sound pressure level. The Xperia 1 VI supports High-Resolution Audio, High-Resolution Audio Wireless, LDAC, Bluetooth LE Audio (Low Energy), and Snapdragon Sound.
Sony has emphasized the phone’s autonomy with a 5,000 mAh battery in a thinner body than previous models. According to Sony, the heat dissipation system, the low power consumption display, and the power efficiency technology enable over 36 hours of continuous playback. The battery charges 50% in approximately 30 minutes, while the Battery Care and Xperia Adaptive Charging ensures the battery doesn’t overwork as it charges.
Sony has also updated the Xperia 1 VI camera app, featuring a user-friendly interface. The app includes tools like special shooting modes and customizable color presets like ‘Creative Look’, and the new Pro video mode with advanced controls. Touch tracking gives users the chance to adjust color and brightness automatically.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI will cost around £1299/€1399, and it will be available to buy from early June. For more information, please visit Sony’s website here.
