SWIT VOLTA Modular Floor Battery System – First Look

SWIT has announced a new block-style battery system that can be upgraded to as many battery modules as desired with versatile outputs and charging. We met with marketing manager Nikolaus Yang at NAB 2023 to discuss the new SWIT VOLTA floor battery system.

The SWIT VOLTA floor battery system consists of a control unit with an integrated charger and power outputs and at least one battery pack unit attached to it. What’s really clever is that you can easily add as many battery pack units as you like, depending on your needs.

Each battery pack unit has a capacity of 1600Wh and you can buy two different versions of the control unit.

Target group

This SWIT VOLTA battery is targeted specifically at documentary filmmakers (and maybe also studio productions), who have to run the camera all day. Depending on your camera and accessory setup, you can choose to attach one, two, or more battery modules.

You can charge one battery module in four hours, thanks to the integrated 500W charger built into both control units.

The display on top of the control unit shows the overall charge and how many battery pack units are attached. When you double-press the power button, a battery health indicator for each battery pack shows up.

Pricing & availability

These new VOLTA products are available as a 1-section version, a 2-section version, and individual battery pack modules which can easily be installed. There is technically no limitation on how many battery modules you can stack. Transportation might become an issue at some point though as they become quite heavy.

The new SWIT VOLTA modular floor battery system will become available before September 2023. The 1-section version will cost around $4000 USD and individual battery modules will cost around $2500 USD.
