September 15th, 2022 Jump to Comment Section 8

Z CAM recently introduced a new full-frame cinema camera in its E2 lineup: the Z CAM E2-F6 Pro. This new version has the same image sensor and recording framerates as the non-Pro version. However, it now comes standard with a 5″ touchscreen monitor, it has a 12G-SDI output port, a Genlock port, and timecode support. Let’s take a closer look at this new Pro version!

When a new camera is announced, it’s always great to see it in person and talk with the manufacturer. So along with the launch of the ZOLAR LED panels, Kinson Loo showed us Z CAM’s latest cinema camera: the E2-F6 Pro.

Z CAM E2-F6 Pro – what’s new?

If you’re new to the Z CAM E2-F6, I can do nothing but recommend you read the extensive review, lab test, and sample footage we did. So what’s different with the new E2-F6 Pro version?

If you’re looking for more framerates/resolutions, you’ll be disappointed, as the Sony sensor inside the camera is the same as its predecessor. However, Z CAM improved the color science and color pipeline.

I would say that most of the improvements are more on the camera’s user experience, operability, and usability. Indeed, the first thing you’ll notice on the Z CAM E2-F6 Pro is probably the 5″ touchscreen monitor on top of the camera. This monitor can control the camera, and it’ll now come standard with the camera.

Also, the E2-F6 Pro is the first Z CAM camera to feature an SDI output port. Better than that, the SDI output is a 12G-SDI port! Furthermore, you’ll find new Genlock and Timecode output ports.

In terms of recording media, the E2-F6 Pro can record in various flavors of ProRes 422 internally onto CFast 2.0 card. The camera can also record in ZRAW internally and ProRes RAW externally. Kinson told us that an upcoming accessory is coming, but we don’t know much about it yet.

The E2-F6 Pro features an interchangeable Canon EF lens mount. In addition, you can swap the lens mount for an optional M/MFT/PL mount.

Pricing and availability

The Z CAM E2-F6 Pro should be available by the end of this year for $3.999. As a direct comparison, the E2-F6 was $2.999.
