The new Zacuto Scissor Lens Support is a clever little accessory for the FUJINON MK line that combines functionality and portability. Read all about it below!
Zacuto has introduced a lens support specifically designed for the new FUJINON MK range of cinema zooms. With a simple and practical foldaway design, you can keep the support attached to the lens even when stored away in a case.
Once extended, the support feet can attach onto a set of standard 15mm rods without the need to slot on from the front, allowing for a very quick setup even if you need to change lenses quickly.
The support itself doesn’t seem to have any sort of height adjustment possibilities, so in order to make sure it reaches the rods, your rig will have to have some sort of rod height adjustment mechanism.
The Fujinon MK 18-55mm T2.9 zoom announced last year is the first in their new line of affordable and compact Super 35mm cinema zooms (you can read our full hands-on review HERE and our technical review HERE). Although with cinema use in mind, both this and the upcoming 50-135mm T.2.9 have been designed for the more lightweight Sony E-mount and FUJIFILM X-mount bayonette, rather than the more robust PL mount. The lens isn’t particularly heavy, but given its length it is still a good idea to support the barrel on a set of rods to relieve the strain on the camera mount.
This product from Zacuto looks like a great solution that goes in line with the portability and compact form factor of the FUJINON zooms. Let’s hope that the concept behind the Zacuto Scissor Lens Support translates to a more universal solution for more lenses out there.
The Zacuto Scissor Lens Support will retail for around $200 and will be shipping in 4 to 6 weeks’ time. It is already available for preorder from the links below.
