The newly announced ZILR NP-F970 USB-C PD battery has a capacity of 72.36Wh (10,050mAh). The base terminal of the battery supports the standard 7.4V while the USB-C PD supports various outputs that include 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A, 15V/1.2A, and 20V/0.9A to power a wide range of USB-C devices and cameras that are capable of USB-C continuous power mode.
ZILR, a company based in Melbourne, Australia, focuses on fast HDMI and USB-C cables. With more and more cameras outputting a raw signal over HDMI, there are never enough reliable HDMI cables. With the latest announcement, the company ventures into another field of camera accessories. They just announced an NP-F970 battery with USB-C power delivery. Let’s take a short look at it.
As the name implies, the battery features the same size as a regular NP-F970. It has a capacity of 72.36Wh or 10,050mAh. The added value, in this case, is the USB-C PD (Power Delivery) connector that can provide various outputs for powering other accessories.
The base terminal of the battery supports the standard 7.4V. The USB-C PD supports various outputs that include 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A, 15V/1.2A, and 20V/0.9A. This way, the ZILR NP-F970 USB-C PD Battery is compatible with a wide range of USB-C devices when using USB-C cable adapters and cameras that are capable of USB-C continuous power mode. For instance, the SIGMA fp cameras as well as Panasonic S series or some Sony alpha cameras support USB-C power delivery.
ZILR presented few different scenarios on how the NP-F970 USB-C PD can be used to power different devices. For example:
There is also a convenient LED power indicator located on the battery that displays the charge level. The battery may also be directly charged via USB-C for compatibility with USB-C AC wall chargers. In fact, ZILR launched their own new 65W USB-C PD AC wall charger that works well with the battery.
For added flexibility, I think it would be interesting to pair this battery with the Power Junkie from Blind Spot, which we reviewed here.
ZILR offers the NP-F970 USB-C PD battery either standalone for $79.99 or as a part of a power kit for $199.99. The kit includes the battery, PD wall charger with USB-A/USB-C Ports, and USB-C to USB-C/USB-C to Lightning Cables. The wall charger is also available separately for $49.99. According to B&H, all these products are currently in stock.
What do you think about the ZILR NP-F970 USB-C PD battery? Do you need USB-C power delivery for your devices on set? Let us know in the comments section underneath the article.
