Blackmagic Camera 7.2.1 Update Released

Blackmagic Design just released an update to its Camera Utility which inlcudes several pieces of software surrounding their line of cinema cameras such as the URSA Mini Pro 12K (read our initial article here). The Blackmagic Camera 7.2.1 update addresses a bunch of small issues if this very camera.

Installing this update will also install Blackmagic RAW Player, Blackmagic RAW Speed Test, Blackmagic RAW SDK and Blackmagic RAW Plugins on your system, so everything is up to date with just one installer.

Keeping the camera, as well as the software that goes with it, up to date is obviously crucial for efficient workflows and the best performance from the camera in question. The URSA Mini Pro 12K may not be your average “run’n’gun” documentary camera, but it certainly offers a lot of potential for FX work and specialized workflows.

Blackmagic Camera 7.2.1 update

This update fixes a bunch of minor issues surrounding the URSA Mini Pro 12K cine camera. The full list reads like this:

  • Improved time remaining readout.
  • Improved focus assist thresholds.
  • Updates for manufacturing.
  • General performance improvements.

This may not seem like much, but if you are an owner of a URSA Mini Pro 12K, these updates could be very welcome. Improved readouts for remaining shooting time are always a good thing (especially when shooting in 12K resolutions) and finer adjustments for peaking thresholds can also be very handy.

Updating your camera

If you’re updating Blackmagic Cameras from Camera 4.0 or above it is advisable to export your presets and LUT’s onto a card as they will be removed during this update. This is not new, of course, but creating a backup before updating your gear should be common practice.

Both macOS 10.15 (Catalina) and macOS 11.1 (Big Sur) are being supported, same goes for Windows 10 64-bit or later.
