Cartoni MIXO 21 Tripod Head Released - High Payload and Compact Form Factor

Cartoni has recently released a compact tripod head that can take payloads up to 21kg/46.3 lbs: the MIXO 21. This head features a 100mm bowl or flat mount, and all controls are located on the left side. It also features a continuous counterbalance system and seven friction settings for both pan and tilt axes. So, let’s take a closer look at it!

Italian tripod manufacturer Cartoni has been in the industry for 90 years. While the company is most well-known for their broadcast/ENG tripods, as well as their cinema tripods, it also produces more affordable tripod systems for owner-operators, such as its Red Lock tripod legs and Focus tripod heads. A couple of years ago, we had the chance to visit Cartoni’s factory and take a closer look at this family business.

Cartoni recently expanded their lineup of tripod heads with the MIXO 21, a compact solution primarily targeting ENG, live sports, news, and documentary filmmakers.

Cartoni MIXO 21 – features

The Cartoni MIXO 21 is a compact tripod head that will be available in two versions: either with a 100mm bowl mount or as a flat-base. The head weighs 3kg (6.61 lbs) and can take payloads ranging from 0 to 21kg (46.3 lbs). Designed with operators in mind, all the head’s controls (pan and tilt locks, quick-release lever) are located on the left side, while the continuous counterbalance knob is positioned at the center rear. Furthermore, there is an illuminated bubble level at the back of the head.

According to Cartoni, the MIXO 21 uses “the same patented counterbalance technology trusted in Cartoni’s FOCUS & MASTER lines, with a wide range of step fluid drag covering all narrative styles.” The MIXO 21 features seven steps of fluid drag settings for the pan and tilt axis. Furthermore, the tripod head has a whole tilt angle of Β±90 Β°.
