Blackmagic Design has just released Public Beta 4 of DaVinci Resolve 20 (not long after Beta 3, which we reported about recently), bringing several targeted improvements that continue to refine both the animation workflow and remote collaboration capabilities in the softwareβs beta cycle.
One of the standout additions in this update is the introduction of aΒ new βflat modeβ for keyframe easing, which helps users create more realistic pauses in animated sequences. This feature is available on both the Edit and Cut pages and is especially useful when animating objects that require natural movement curves, such as a bouncing ball. The βflatβ easing style ensures a brief standstill at the top or bottom of a motion arc, mimicking real-world physics and providing smoother visual flow.
Another set of enhancements centers around theΒ curves editor, a powerful tool for fine-tuning effects. With Beta 4, users can now enableΒ clip handles – this exposes the unused frames before and after a clip, making it easier to apply smooth transitions and fine-grained adjustments to properties such as opacity, position, or zoom, even outside the visible clip boundaries.
Additionally, right-clicking on a keyframe now brings up an overlay window with easing options, allowing for quick modifications without disturbing existing keyframe positions. This small but practical interface update aims to improve both speed and accuracy during curve-based adjustments.
ForΒ DaVinci Resolve Studio users, Beta 4 brings expanded hardware support forΒ remote monitoring. Specifically, live viewer streaming is now available on Windows systems usingΒ Intel or AMD CPUs, broadening the scope of machines that can be used for remote editing or color grading sessions – a valuable upgrade for post-production teams working in distributed workflows.
Beta 4 also improves animation handling forΒ manually created or imported subtitles. The update adjusts animation timing based on the clipβs timeline position, length, and word count, resulting in more fluid and natural motion, especially when animating individual words or letters.
DaVinci Resolve 20 Public Beta 4 is available now as a free download from Blackmagic Designβs official site.
Have you tested out the new easing tools or remote features in Beta 4 yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
