Fotodiox Cine Edition Fusion Lens Adapters for Canon RF and L-Mount Cameras Announced

Fotodiox Cine Edition Fusion Lens Adapters for Canon RF and L-Mount Cameras Announced

Fotodiox has just introduced a new series of four lens adapters that allow you to mount Canon EF glass on either Canon RF or Leica L-mount camera bodies. The Fotodiox Cine Edition Fusion adapters feature a cine-style positive-lock EF mount, support electronic communication between the camera and the lens, and come in two flavors, with or without a built-in variable ND filter. Pricing starts at about $400.

Accessory and lighting manufacturer Fotodiox already offers lens adapters that enable you to mount Canon EF lenses onto Canon RF or L-mount cameras. These are available in two versions, with or without an internal Vari ND filter.

However, the existing versions lack a key feature for filmmakers, namely a rock-solid connection between the camera and the lens, which is essential to avoid lens wiggle when pulling focus. That’s why the company is now coming up with a “Cine Edition” of these products. Let’s take a closer look!

Fotodiox Cine Edition Fusion lens adapters – features

The new Fotodiox Cine Edition Fusion series currently consists of a total of 4 lens adapters. Two of these are designed to attach Canon EF or EF-S lenses to Canon RF mount cameras, while the other two allow you to mount the same type of glass to L-mount alliance bodies.

The biggest selling point of these adapters, over their “non-Cine” counterparts, is the addition of a breech-lock mounting mechanism, similar to that of the ARRI PL mount system, that should provide a secure connection with no play between the lens and the camera.

Once you choose your camera mount, then you can opt between a Standard version of the adapter and the Vizelex ND Throttle variant. The latter includes a built-in variable ND filter whose intensity is adjustable between 1 and 8 stops. Additionally, on the side of the ND Throttle adapters, there’s a thumbscrew that allows you to lock the VND filter in place, thus preventing accidental changes in its intensity while shooting.

Moreover, the adapters have electronic pins to ensure communication between the camera and compatible EF lenses. This means that the adapters support aperture control as well as autofocus and optical stabilization functions.

All four models feature an all-metal construction with chrome-plated brass mounts. Finally, each lens adapter has a removable Arca-Swiss tripod foot at the bottom, which can come in handy when shooting with long, heavy EF lenses.
