Libec TH-Z2 Video Tripod Announced – Redesigned Leg System and Mounting Ports

Libec has introduced the TH-Z2, an updated version of its TH-Z video tripod system. It keeps the same fluid head design as the original but adds a redesigned tripod leg system, along with a few practical updates for on-set use. The system supports a 5kg (11 lb) payload, features a fixed counterbalance and drag, and includes both a 75mm bowl and a flat base for broader compatibility. Let’s take a look at the new version.

Libec has been refining this part of its lineup for a while. We recently covered the TK-210QC baby tripod, and also took a closer look at the company’s development process during a factory visit in Japan a few years back. The TH-Z2 continues that broader push, updating the original TH-Z with redesigned tripod legs and more flexible mounting options.

Updated tripod design and handling

Libec has added a detachable carrying handle that can be repositioned in 90° steps or removed entirely. It sounds simple, but for quick moves between setups, this kind of handling detail matters more than it might seem on paper.

The tripod base now also includes three accessory ports with 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch threads. This lets users mount monitors, lights, or arms directly to the tripod without extra clamps. A weight hook, adjustable mid spreader, and improved rubber feet are also part of the update, all aimed at increasing stability in less controlled environments.

All versions use a two-stage leg design, with a height range from 71.5 to 161.5cm (28 to 63.6 in) and a total system weight starting at 3.5kg (7.7 lb).

Head features and compatibility

The fluid head remains largely unchanged, with fixed drag and counterbalance. It offers a tilt range of +90 to -80° and uses a sliding plate system. Compatibility extends beyond Libec’s own ecosystem, supporting widely used standards such as Manfrotto and Sachtler plates. The plate itself has a ±30mm adjustment range.

The dual head design supports both 75mm bowl and flat base mounting, allowing the head to be used across different support systems, including sliders and photo tripods. The snap-on plate mechanism is designed for quick one-touch attachment and release.

There are also some smaller usability touches, like an illuminated bubble level for low-light setups and dual serrations for flexible pan handle positioning.

Price and availability

The TH-Z2 is available as a standalone tripod system or in two kits that include Libec sliders:

The TH-Z2 and both kit versions are expected to be released in June 2026. Pricing has not yet been announced at the time of writing. For more information and further specs, please visit the Libec website.
