MID49 has recently released the DB-14, a power distribution module designed specifically to expand the capabilities of the Pixboom Spark high-speed camera. The accessory comes in both V-Mount and Gold Mount options, adds several power outputs to the camera, and is now available to order for $850.
First unveiled ahead of IBC 2025, the Pixboom Spark (our review here) easily sits high in the list of the most interesting cameras released in recent times. Indeed, it boasts impressive capabilities relative to its relatively affordable price β including a Super35 global shutter sensor, compressed RAW, 4.6K Open Gate recording at up to 670fps β seriously competing with pricier systems like Freeflyβs Ember S5K in bringing high-speed capture one step closer to the masses.
Like every camera, the Pixboom Spark requires the right accessories to meet the demands of life on set. Alongside a 15mm LW baseplate system, accessory manufacturer MID49 has recently released a power distribution box that is tailor-made for this system. Letβs take a closer look!
The MID49 Power Distribution Box DB-14 for Pixboom Spark comes in two versions to accommodate either V-Mount or Gold Mount onboard batteries. The module adds approximately 385g/13.6oz of weight to the camera and attaches directly to the V-mount interface on the rear side of the Sparkβs body.
Once connected and powered, the accessory adds the following power outputs to the camera:
Moreover, the module features a 4-pin XLR DC input (11-17V) that allows you to feed the camera and its accessories via mains power, while also enabling hot-swap of the onboard V-Mount or Gold Mount battery. If the accessory is powered by both sources, the XLR input takes priority over the V-Mount or Gold Mount brick to preserve battery life.
Another smart feature is support for SMBus communication, which means that the distribution box can pass on battery information to the camera. Lastly, the module integrates a smart fuse that can cut off power to the accessories in the event of a power overload, leaving the camera running normally.
The MID49 Power Distribution Box DB-14 for Pixboom Spark is now available to order from the manufacturerβs website (V-Mount / Gold Mount). Its official retail price is $850.For more information, please visit MID49βs website here.
