Simmod Lens released two new caps for PL Mounts, trackable PL/LPL camera body caps for Apple AirTags, and wide base shimmable rear caps for PL lenses. Both caps can be ordered engraved with a personal design. The trackable PL/LPL camera body cap can be purchased for $25 (Apple AirTag not included). The wide base shimmable PL rear caps are available for $30 directly at the SIMMOD Lens webshop. So let’s have a closer look at these unique caps!

If you haven’t heard of this manufacturer, SIMMOD Lens was founded by cinematographer Ron Sim and is based in Canada. They offer all sorts of cine conversion kits, adapters, follow focus gear, and accessories for a wide range of vintage and photography lenses. For example, SIMMOD Lens recently introduced a PL Cine Pro lens adapter for mirrorless mounts.

But one of the most exciting products they offer are lens caps. If you think this is just a simple piece of plastic that you put on both ends of your lens, then you have never checked out the SIMMOD Lens Caps!

PL and LPL body caps for Apple AirTags

SIMMOD Lens released a body cap for the PL and LPL Mount that hides an Apple AirTag inside. From the outside, it looks like a regular lens cap, assembled using just two screws. But now you can easily and inexpensively track your valuable cinema camera discreetly. Because the port cap is made of ABS plastic, it provides a good transmission for the AirTag signal.

Like any other lens cap from SIMMOD Lens, you can custom design your own logo that will be printed directly on your lens cap at no extra cost. Provide a PDF with a transparent layer, upload the file, and in 5 to 7 days you will get your very own individual lens cap.

Wide base shimmable PL rear caps

The new PL rear caps are available in plastic or aluminum design. The aluminum version is about ten times heavier (185g / 6,5 oz) than a normal plastic cap to lower the center of gravity of your lens. They are available for most common brands of lens manufacturers, from Angenieux to Yashica.

You have the choice of 4 different colors (black, blue, red, and brushed aluminum) and you can order them with a custom laser design in white or full color. For a limited time, the full-color option is free of charge; otherwise, it is $5 extra.

Apart from the optical design features, why would you want to use a different rear lens cap? The design idea of the new rear lens cap is simply extra security for your lenses. With the wide 63mm / 2,5 in design of the cap, you can put the lens in a safe and secure upright position. The lens cap comes with two 0,05mm shims that go under the rubber gasket for finetuning the cap to the size of your lens.

You can order all lens caps directly at the SIMMOD Lens website. The body caps for PL and LPL for AirTags (Apple AirTag not included) are available for $25 including custom design engraving. The wide base shimmable PL rear caps are available for $30 in plastic and $45 in aluminum design, including custom design engraving.
