ZEISS Aatma T1.5 Full-Frame Cinema Lenses Released

ZEISS has just unveiled a lineup of T1.5 prime lenses that cover full-frame image sensors: the Aatma. At launch, the entire lens set is available, comprising nine focal lengths: 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 85mm, 100mm, and 135mm. Let’s take a closer look at these lenses, which are expected to start shipping in June 2026.

When it comes to high-end cinema primes designed for large-format cinema cameras, ZEISS is well known for their Supreme line of T1.5 prime lenses launched in 2018. In 2024, the company expanded the Supreme line with a trio of zoom lenses to cover a wide range of shooting scenarios.

After releasing the compact and “affordable” Nano Primes for Sony E-mount cameras that we reviewed here, the German manufacturer is back to the high-end of the spectrum with a new lineup of lenses: the Aatma.

ZEISS Aatma – features

The name “Aatma” comes from the Sanskrit word for “innermost essence,” “self,” or “soul.” According to the company, they designed these lenses to “evoke emotion while keeping a consistent look across the set. Their images are similar to classic ZEISS lenses, with soft skin tones, lower contrast, smooth and lively focus transitions, and rich bokeh with a gentle soap bubble effect.”

At launch, the lens set includes nine lenses: 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 85mm, 100mm, and 135mm, all at T1.5. The lenses feature a new optical design inspired by the past, while their mechanical specifications meet ZEISS’s current high-end cinema lens standards.

The lenses keep the familiar form, size, weight, and handling of ZEISS’s premium cine lenses. Like other modern ZEISS cinema lenses, the Aatma features ZEISS eXtended Data (XD) technology and is fully compatible with the CinCraft system, making workflows for visual effects, camera tracking, and virtual production more efficient.

ZEISS Panoptes 65 preview

ZEISS is also previewing an upcoming lens set, the Panoptes 65, which is expected to be available in summer 2026. According to the company, the Panoptes 65 is “inspired by ZEISS’s modern full-frame lenses.” It is designed to cover large image sensors of cameras such as the Alexa 265, Alexa 65, and Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65. The set includes 10 focal lengths: 25, 35, 40, 45, 55, 70, 90, 110, 135, and 180 mm, all with a T2.2 aperture.

Price and availability

All ZEISS Aatma lenses are available for order now, either as a complete set or individually, starting at $20,950 per lens, and are expected to begin shipping in June 2026.
