Blackmagic Design recently released firmware version 3.17 for their Video Assist lineup, bringing several updates for the 5″ and 7″ 12G HDR models. This update focuses on expanding camera compatibility for Blackmagic RAW recording, improving performance, and addressing stability issues.
Version 3.17 introduces a few notable changes, particularly for users of specific FUJIFILM and Panasonic cameras.
In addition to the firmware update, the installer package includes several tools to assist with Blackmagic RAW workflows:
Users will also find the Blackmagic Video Assist Setup tool, necessary for configuring the device.
For those who rely on third-party applications, it’s worth noting that the update package contains some third-party code, which is detailed in the included “Third Party Licenses.rtf” document.
Overall, the 3.17 firmware update – which can be downloaded free of charge here – introduces practical improvements, particularly for those working with FUJIFILM and Panasonic LUMIX cameras, though its broader benefits will mainly come from the incremental performance and stability gains common in these kinds of updates. While not groundbreaking, it is a useful update for those needing expanded camera support and reliable operation.
