Blind Spot Gear Power Junkie v2 Now Available on Kickstarter

Blind Spot Gear is back on Kickstarter for their 8th crowdfunding campaign with the Power Junkie v2. This updated version features a USB-C power input/output port and two 12V plus 8.4V DC output ports. Furthermore, it now has a standard 1/4″-20 threaded hole in the middle of the unit to easily mount it onto your camera rig. So let’s take a closer look at it!

Blind Spot Gear is a British company specializing in innovative niche products for filmmakers. Over the years, the company released the Power Cage and Power Bracket, the Power Pipe 12V/8.4V cables to power your camera from a battery bank, and the tiny USB-powered Crack Light.

Back in 2018, the company successfully launched the Power Junkie on Kickstarter. This little Sony NP-F battery adapter was a lighter and more affordable alternative to traditional V-Mount/Gold Mount batteries to power your camera and small accessories. Fast forward to today, the team has gone back to the drawing board and redesigned the Power Junkie v2 from scratch.

Blind Spot Gear Power Junkie v2 – features

The Blind Spot Gear Power Junkie v2 measures 8x6x2cm for a weight of only 75g. Interestingly, it is made from bio-sourced nylon from castor beans.

The unit takes standard Sony NP-F batteries that most content creators already have a plethora of. This new version now features an On/Off switch. In addition, the front of the Power Junkie v2 still features an LED status indicator that can be turned off using the power switch.

On the left side of the Blind Spot Gear Power Junkie v2, you’ll find:

  • One DC 8.4V/3A power output with a 5.5×2.1mm barrel connector.
  • A DC 12V/2.5A power output with a 5.5×2.5mm barrel connector.
  • One USB-C PD output/input port. This port can output 5V/3A, 9V/2.5A, 12V/1.9A, 15V/1.5A and 20V/1.1A. Furthermore, you can use it to charge your Sony NP-F battery or power the two DC outputs.

As you can tell, there is also a PD LED status indicator and an “XX” indicator that indicates any unit overload.

Similar to its predecessor, you can simultaneously use all the power output ports of the Power Junkie v2. The maximum power output is 45W shared across all outputs.

According to Blind Spot Gear, one medium-sized Sony NP-F 750 battery is equivalent to six NP-FW50 batteries (used on the Sony A7s II, for example) or three Sony NP-FZ100 batteries (used on the Sony A7R IV/A7 III, for example).

Blind Spot Gear redesigned the Power Junkie v2 mounting system, which now offers you a 1/4″-20 threaded hole in the middle of the unit. It’ll make your life a lot easier when mounting it onto your camera rig. Also, the Power Junkie v2 comes with a cable tie mount if needed.

Price and availability

The Power Junkie v2 is now available to preorder on Kickstarter for $59, which is a 30% saving on the $89 regular retail price.

Please remember that Kickstarter is not a shop but a platform for funding projects. Blind Spot Gear has a good amount of experience with manufacturers and assembly chains by now, so I’m pretty positive they’ll deliver a solid product in time. But please, do your research, read the platform’s terms of use and remember that there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects don’t even get delivered at all.
