DigitalFoto recently released the second version of its CHAMELEON RGB tube LED lights: the CHAMELEON2-SE and CHAMELEON4-SE. These 2ft/60cm and 4ft/114cm updated versions are now pixel tubes and benefit from 16 built-in pixel-based effects. So, let’s take a closer look at them!
DigitalFoto is a Chinese manufacturer that makes a wide variety of camera accessories, support systems, and lighting solutions for filmmakers. We recently discovered their THANOS-PROCINE steadicam system for cinema cameras that can take payloads from 5kg/11 lbs up to 35kg/77.1 lbs.
The company already has multiple RGB LED tubes in its product lineup, including the interesting P200 rain-proof small tubes. DigitalFoto is now back with an updated version of their CHAMELEON tubes released a couple of years ago: the CHAMELEON2-SE and CHAMELEON4-SE.
The DigitalFoto CHAMELEON2-SE is a 2ft/60cm RGB pixel tube, while the CHAMELEON4-SE is a longer 4ft/114cm version. However, both versions share similar specifications.
The DigitalFoto CHAMELEON-SE can go from 2,000K to 10,000K in CCT mode and can be dimmed from 0 to 100%. According to the company, the pixel tubes have a CRI of 95+ and a TLCI of 97+, so they should be pretty color-accurate. Please find the lighting output readings below.
Both fixtures feature a built-in 14.8V 20,800mAh battery. At full power, you should get around 2.5 hours of battery life. You’ll find a DC barrel connector on one end of the tubes to charge the CHAMELEON-SE in about four hours with the included AC adapter.
The CHAMELEON-SE has 14 built-in CCT/RGB lighting effects, including flash, paparazzi, party, hue loop, bad bulb, etc. On top of that, you’ll also benefit from 16-pixel lighting effects, including fire, colorful, and various rotate/replace/move COR modes.
You’ll find 1/4″-20 mounting points at the back of the tubes on both ends. Also, there is a small status screen and control buttons to adjust the light settings. Furthermore, the DigitalFoto CHAMELEON2-SE and CHAMELEON4-SE can be controlled via the company’s App, and they’re compatible with wired/wireless 2.4Ghz DMX, but I could not find more details about it.
The DigitalFoto CHAMELEON2-SE retails for $240, and the CHAMELEON4-SE is $299. Both products are available now.
