After Sony E, Leica M, and their own DL-mount, DJI has released a new lens mount unit for the Zenmuse X9 gimbal camera found on the Ronin 4D: L-mount. At launch, this module is compatible with seven Panasonic and SIGMA lenses, including five prime and two zoom lenses. So let’s take a closer look at it!
The DJI Ronin 4D was launched in October 2021 (here’s our extensive review of it!) and the least we can say is that this creative tool made many waves among filmmakers and content creators! Indeed, this one-of-a-kind hybrid device is a 4-axis gimbal and a cinema camera, an all-in-one device that opens many new creative possibilities.
The high-end Zenmuse X9 camera built into the Ronin 4D features a full-frame image sensor, can capture footage up to 8K at 75 frames per second or 6K at 60fps and has native 800/4000 dual ISO with up to 9-stops of built-in ND filters. That’s impressive for such a small camera, and it was even supposed to have the ability to record in ProRes RAW internally, a feature that never saw the light of the day due to “legal issues.” So instead, DJI replaced Apple ProRes RAW with Apple ProRes 4444 XQ.
One nice thing about the Zenmuse X9 is that it features a user-interchangeable lens mount. At launch, three lens mount units were available: DL-mount, Leica M and Sony E-Mount. In June 2022, DJI joined the L-Mount Alliance next to Leica, SIGMA and Panasonic. So, no surprises here, DJI has just announced its L-Mount lens mount unit for the DJI Ronin 4D.
The L-Mount lens mount unit for the DJI Ronin 4D is now available and is, at the time of writing, compatible with seven lenses, including:
All of these lenses include native focus and aperture controls without any extra accessories. Of course, if you use the LiDAR module on top of your Ronin 4D, you can also benefit from autofocus capabilities.
The L-mount lens mount unit for the DJI Ronin 4D is available now for $439/€409.
