Godox MG4K LED Light Introduced – A 2000W LED Alternative to 4K HMI

Godox has introduced the MG4K, a 2000W LED fixture positioned as a direct competitor to traditional 4K HMIs. At 10 kg (22 lbs) without the yoke and 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs) with the yoke, it’s about half the weight of a standard 4K HMI head, making it easier for a single person to operate. Let’s have a look at this new light.

Godox has been steadily expanding their lineup with the M300R RGBWW LED for film and broadcast, the high-output KNOWLED MG6K, and the MG2400R, a 2650W, full-color, G-Mount fixture. Most recently, we looked at the KNOWLED AM1600R mat light, an inflatable panel available in two sizes. The new MG4K continues that push, this time positioned as a direct LED alternative to a 4K HMI.

Godox MG4K – eEfficiency and power use

The MG4K runs on 2000W, about half the draw of a comparable HMI. A built-in power limit lets it operate safely on household outlets or smaller generators, which can be useful on location.

According to the company, the fixture produces 25,600 lux at 5600K from 5m (16.4 ft) when paired with a 30° reflector. It covers a CCT range of 2800K to 10,000K with ±100% green/magenta adjustment, giving flexibility when balancing mixed sources and allowing precise color reproduction on set.

Godox MG4K – cooling and durability

The MG4K uses an advanced cooling system that increases heat dissipation by 67%, so it maintains consistent performance on long shoots. It also carries an IP65 rating against dust and water, so it can be used in less controlled environments.

G-mount ecosystem

The light-emitting surface is just 63 mm (2.5 in) in diameter, small enough to achieve a near-point source, according to Godox. Its bare beam angle is 110°, wide enough to cover large areas evenly. With the MGR15 15° reflector, output is concentrated up to 36.7 times, reaching 124,000 lux at 5m (16.4 ft) at 5600K. Like other recent Godox fixtures, the MG4K uses the G-Mount system, compatible with 16 modifiers ranging from Fresnels to softboxes. Dimming is adjustable in 0.1% steps, giving precise exposure control.
