Hollyland COSMO C1 Released – Direct Live Streaming Made Easy

The Hollyland COSMO C1 is a new SDI/HDMI wireless video transmission system that provides a range of 1000 feet line-of-sight with a low latency of 40ms. It’s the first device of its kind to support UVC (USB Video Capture) to directly stream your video to a computer via USB-C. It is now available for pre-order for $899.

When it comes to wireless video transmission, Hollyland Technology is a major player. Their MARS and COSMO series have become quite popular over the years thanks to their easy-to-use approach and reasonable price point.

The Hollyland COSMO C1 is the latest addition to this family of wireless transmission systems and it introduces a new useful feature for live streaming. Let’s take a closer look.

Hollyland COSMO C1: overview

The Hollyland COSMO C1 is an SDI/HDMI wireless video transmission system working in the 5.1-5.8GHz frequency band.

According to the company, it can provide a transmission range of up to 1000ft (305m) in a LOS (line-of-sight) scenario with a low latency of 40ms. Now, while the ideal solution for monitoring and focus-pulling work would be a much more expensive zero-latency system, these specs should be fine for most users and applications.

The COSMO C1 is equipped with Hollyland’s HEVO technology which relies on Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) for ensuring a robust signal. The frequency is re-scanned every 0.001 seconds to provide a stable transmission even in high-interference environments. This should prevent any black screen, flickering, or glitch issues to occur.

Unlike the MARS models, the COSMO C1 lacks the ability to monitor the image via wi-fi on a smartphone or tablet.

Direct Live Streaming via USB-C: an industry’s first

The greatest innovation of this product regards its wireless live streaming capabilities. In fact, it is the first wireless video transmission system in the industry to feature USB Video Capture (UVC) technology.

By simply connecting the COSMO C1 receiver to a computer via USB-C, the video feed will be automatically detected for direct live streaming. This is big news since it makes it possible to wirelessly and directly stream from your camera to a computer without the need for a dedicated capture card.

TX and RX overview

The TX and RX feature both HDMI and SDI connections that support 1080p video inputs at up to 60fps. Moreover, the TX is also equipped with SDI Loop-Out.

The COSMO C1 offers several powering and mounting options. When it comes to providing power to the units, you can choose between a Sony NP-F style battery, a USB-C cable, or the included DC IN adapter. Moreover, an LED indicator will warn you 20 minutes before your battery dies so you don’t risk losing signal.

A cold shoe mount on both the TX and RX allows for mounting the units horizontally. Moreover, if you prefer rigging them vertically, you can still do so by using the 1/4”-20 threaded hole at the bottom of each unit.
