Kondor Blue has announced new rigging solutions designed specifically for Canon’s latest mirrorless camera: the Kondor Blue Canon EOS R5/R6 Full Cages. These cages are designed with efficiency in mind, but there are plenty of mounting points all over the cage. A Top Handle is also available that allows you to start/stop recording. Let’s take a look!

Kondor Blue Canon EOS R5/R6 Full Cages

We first talked about Kondor Blue a couple of months ago with their rigging solutions for the Panasonic Lumix S1H. The team at Kondor Blue is moving fast and they already announced a solution for the Canon EOS R5/R6 mirrorless cameras.

These cages are designed with speed in mind. There is an Arca Swiss quick release system that attaches to the bottom of your camera. Then, all you have to do is slide your camera into the cage and lock it in place via the lever. There’s a safety pin so your camera can’t come out of the cage if you forgot to lock the level. This system allows you to quickly get your camera in and out of the cage.

If you’re extensively rigging your camera, the last thing you want is your camera wiggling inside a cage. To secure your camera inside the Kondor Blue Canon EOS R5/R6 Full Cages even more, there is an interesting cold shoe knob at the top of the cage. Once your camera is inside the cage, this knob attaches to your camera’s cold shoe. With the big wingnut, you can secure the camera to the cage by screwing it by hand. There’s even a bubble level on top of the wingnut; wish is extremely well-thought-out.

If you take a cold shoe out of the camera, you better give users another one. And Kondor Blue doesn’t disappoint here, giving you one cold shoe with a safety pin on the cages’ left side.

At the bottom of the cage, you’ll find a 3/8″-16 and two 1/4″-20 mounting point to attach your favorite quick release plate to the cage. In front of the cage, a built-in magnetic hex wrench will help you remove the Arca Swiss quick release plate from the camera.

An important thing is that the cages don’t obstruct any dials, buttons, or openings of the camera.

The cages are made out of metal, and there are over 70 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threaded holes all around the cage and some ARRI standard accessory mounting points.

Also, there is a micro-HDMI and USB type-C cable clamp to protect the camera’s connectors from unwanted stress coming from the cables.

Finally, on the left side and the top of the Kondor Blue Canon EOS R5/R6 Full Cages, you’ll find Nato rails to mount accessories/handles quickly.

Universal Handle

A bundle is available with the cages that include the Kondor Blue Universal Handle. This handle attaches to the top of the cages via a Nato rail and features 1/4″-20 plus 3/8″-16 threaded holes all over the handle. There’s also two cold shoe mounts in front/rear of the handle, as well as a 15mm rod mount in front of the handle.

What’s nice about this handle is that it can trigger your recording via a red start/stop button on top of the handle. Of course, you’ll need a cable between the Kondor Blue Universal Handle and your camera to access this function.

Price and Availability

The Kondor Blue Canon EOS R5/R6 Full Cages are currently in the pre-order stage. The Full Cage retails for $125 and $199 with the top handle.

A bigger battery grip cage will also be available for $149 and $225 with the top handle.
