The Tokina 25-75mm T2.9 lens completes Tokina’s cine zoom lineup, with an expandable image circle up to 8K Vistavision and swappable lens mounts.
Designed for Super35 cinema cameras from RED, ARRI, Sony, and the like, the equivalent focal length of the 25-75mm T2.9 lens is 40-120mm on a Super35 sensor. The lens is parfocal, with very similar optical design to the 11-20mm and 50-135mm. This could make the set a practical ‘out of the box’ choice for rental houses, which can be adapted to the needs of the production.
Super35 To VistaVision Image Circle Coverage
Whilst the lenses are designed for Super35 sensor coverage, the image circle can be expanded to full-frame and VistaVision by using the Tokina Cine 1.6x Expander. This is for PL and EF mounts respectively, and increases the focal length to 40-120mm T4.2, making it a compact cine zoom lens for full-frame.
The large range of swappable mounts (PL, EF, MFT, E, and F mount) and expandable image circle gives the 25-75mm T2.9 an edge cover the competition. The Fujinon Mk lenses are for super35 sensor coverage, whereas the likes of the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm and DZO 20-70mm cater to the lower price point markets for example.
The Tokina 25-75mm T2.9 has been designed to fit in the current line-up of cine zoom lenses, complementing the 11-20mm T2.9 and 50-135mm T2.9 Mark II as a complete set. For ever-changing camera systems in rental houses, the interchangeable mounts should have high appeal too.
The lens will be available from Spring 2021, so a bit of time to wait if you are eager to get your hands on them.
