Wooden Camera has just released a couple of camera accessories as part of their new Universal Accessories lineup: two bubble levels, 1/4″-20 or 3/8″-16 to 15mm or 19mm rod clamp adapters and a nice little accessory cube. Let’s take a closer look at these handy camera add-ons!
Third-party accessories US-manufacturer Wooden Camera is well-known for making a wide range of products, including camera cages and handles, rigs, power distribution solutions, and other accessories for most DSLR, mirrorless, and cinema cameras.
The company is part of Creative Solutions, a unit of the Videndum (formerly the Vitec Group) that also includes Teradek and SmallHD. Wooden Camera is the “rigging company” of the three, and all companies work closely together to create products that work together seamlessly.
To further expand their range of products, Wooden Camera launched the Universal Accessories lineup with no less than nine new products!
Let’s start with the first, and what I find one of the most helpful accessories of the Wooden Camera Universal Accessories lineup: the Round Bubble Level. This simple 1/4″-20 or 3/8″-16 screw is made of metal, weighs close to nothing and features a bubble level on top that allows you to level your camera quickly and easily.
Something I never got about cinema cameras, compared to DSLR/mirrorless cameras, is the lack of built-in horizon level. So sometimes it makes leveling a cinema camera a bit hard, for example, on a gimbal, to ensure your calibration is correct. So I always carry a little cold shoe bubble level with my Canon EOS C70. This thing is made out of cheap plastic, but it is convenient on a daily basis.
You can probably tell how excited I am by this new Wooden Camera Round Bubble Level; as I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Next is a longer linear bubble level that measures 34 x 23.3 x 19 mm/1.3 x .92 x 0.75 in and weighs around 15 grams/0.03 lbs.
This Linear Bubble Level is also available in both 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 versions with a locating pin.
The 1/4″-20 version features a locating pin compatible with both Wooden Camera and ARRI-standard mounting points, while the 3/8″-16 version is ARRI-standard.
The Wooden Camera Universal Accessories lineup also consists of three bolt-on rod clamps:
I’m unsure if the Wooden Camera locating pins are compatible with SmallHD monitors. We asked Wooden Camera and will update this article once we learn more about it. If compatible, the 1/4″-20 to 15mm rod adapter could be convenient to offset a monitor on a shoulder rig, for example.
Last but not least in the Wooden Camera Universal Accessories lineup are the Accessory Cubes. These cubes feature five 3/8″-16 with ARRI locating pins on all faces.
Two versions are available for attaching accessories to any 1/4″-20 or 3/8″-16 mounting point. Similar to the other products, the 3/8″-16 locating pins are compatible with the ARRI-standard mounting points, and the 1/4″-20 locating pins are compatible with both Wooden Camera and ARRI-standard mounting points.
The Wooden Camera Round Bubble Level retails for $12, the Linear Bubble Level is $29, the Rod Clamp adapters are $45, and the Accessory Cube is $39. All products are available now.
