Eddie AI Logging v2 Announced – Topic Steering, 20-Hour Pro+ Tier, and Backgrounder Documents

Ahead of Cine Gear Expo LA 2026, Eddie AI has rolled out A- and B-Roll Logging v2, a context-aware update that lets editors specify up to five topics or categories per clip so the AI focuses on the themes, characters, or objects that matter to the story. The release lands alongside an expanded Pro+ tier that now handles up to 20 hours of source material and new backgrounder support for Google Docs, PDF, and Word files to shape Eddie’s story suggestions.

We have been tracking Eddie AI’s release cadence closely at CineD, from the v2.0 launch in early 2025 through the DaVinci Resolve extension, Dirty Multicam support, the Scripted Mode upgrade, and most recently the v3 release with Night Shift, which we also covered in a hands-on at NAB 2026. Logging v2 is the next step in that arc, tightening the feedback loop between the editor’s intent and the AI’s interpretation of the footage.

How topic steering works in Docs/Stringouts

The core idea behind Logging v2 is straightforward: rather than letting Eddie decide on its own what is worth surfacing inside hours of raw interview and B-roll material, editors can now seed the logging process with up to five topics or categories per clip. Those prompts can be themes, recurring characters, locations, product names, or specific visual objects, and Eddie will weigh its log around them. The result, according to the company, is more relevant metadata and faster organization across long-form projects.

For now, the feature is exclusive to Docs/Stringouts mode, the unified workflow that replaced the older Chat & Edit naming and consolidates rough cut, social media, ChatGPT, and A-roll logging behaviors into a single import. That means editors who upload once into a Docs/Stringouts project can get multiple deliverables, from rough cuts to social clips to detailed logs, without re-uploading their media, and now with topic-aware logs baked in.

Pro+ now handles 20 hours of source material

Alongside Logging v2, Eddie AI has lifted the ceiling on its Pro+ subscription. The tier now supports up to 20 hours of source material per project, which is a meaningful jump for teams working on documentary, branded long-form, or multi-day interview shoots where the raw pile can quickly outgrow lower caps. The company positions this as the tier for “larger edits,” and in practice, that puts Pro+ into territory where it can swallow most full documentary shoot schedules without forcing editors to split projects.

It also pairs naturally with the Docs/Stringouts philosophy of importing once and generating many outputs. The bigger the source pool, the more value there is in being able to pull a rough cut, a social cutdown, and a fully logged A-/B-roll inventory from the same import without paying the time cost of re-ingesting media.

Backgrounder documents shape Eddie’s story suggestions

The other notable addition is backgrounder document support. When importing media, editors can now attach a Google Doc URL or upload PDF and Word files as reference material that Eddie consults when proposing a story structure. In a documentary or branded context, that might be a research dossier, a shot list, an interview prep document, or a treatment, anything that gives the AI a sense of what the piece is supposed to be about before it starts pulling soundbites.

This is a meaningful conceptual shift. Earlier versions of Eddie AI inferred story intent largely from the footage itself, with thematic framing arriving at the chat or prompt stage. Backgrounders push that context to the front of the workflow, which should reduce the back-and-forth of corrective prompting that often follows a first-pass AI assembly. As with topic steering, the practical test will be how well Eddie reconciles a written brief with footage that, as anyone who has worked in production knows, does not always cooperate with the plan.

Logs and edits still export to the major NLEs

The updates sit on top of an export pipeline that has stayed consistent: logs and edits from Eddie AI can be exported to Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro, with multicam support and the Dirty Multicam handling we covered earlier this year. Eddie AI says it plans to extend the new logging context capability to the dedicated A/B-roll logging mode in a future release, which would close the gap for editors who prefer to stay in that workflow rather than the unified Docs/Stringouts environment.

See it in person at Cine Gear Expo LA 2026

Eddie AI will be demonstrating Logging v2 and the expanded Pro+ tier at Cine Gear Expo LA 2026, booth S1611 / Stage 16, taking place June 5 and 6 at the Universal Studios Lot in Universal City, California.

The new features are available immediately to all subscribers, and a free trial is still on offer at heyeddie.ai for editors who want to test the workflow on their own footage before committing.

Does steerable, context-aware AI logging change how you would brief out an edit, or is the value still in the raw assembly? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below!
