MID49 has released a new lineup of accessories for rigging the Sony Burano cine camera. Their clever EVF pivot adapter makes it easy to switch from the LCD display to the eyepiece. MID49 released a new top plate, cable extension, and a microphone shock mount. They’ve also demonstrated how the Burano will work with their Cage Nato Side Arm and Baseline 15mm LW bridge plate. Ryan Schorman, president of MID49, demonstrates how this all comes together in their latest video.
Cinema cameras typically ship with a bare minimum of accessories. For you to operate efficiently on set, you typically need to add cages, arms, and tripod adapters. These accessories aid you when moving a camera back and forth between handheld or tripod setups. Each camera is unique, so accessory makers release very specific pieces of rigging to help you get the most out of your gear. MID49 has been releasing some innovative gear recently.
The pivot adapter allows you to easily switch between the monitor and viewfinder modes without the use of tools. There’s a nice little video of it on the product page. The EVF bracket can then connect to their Cage Nato Side Arm. This allows the EVF to be repositioned when moving between monitor and eyepiece configurations.
The Cage Nato Side Arms attach to the new Sony Burano Top Plate. This top plate is covered in a vast array of 1/4″ 20 and 3/8″ with anti-twist pin connections. The center of the top plate allows for the attachment of the original Burano handle or the top handle from the Sony FX9.
The quick-release base plate features an Arca-Swiss design with lens mount support. The bottom of the base plate is an Arri standard dovetail. It features a ‘drop-on’ method of attaching to a dovetail. This eliminates the need to align a bridge plate with a dovetail before sliding it on. The baseplate is compatible with other cameras as well.
The Microphone Shock Mount (Sideways 15mm Rod) introduces an innovative way to mount your microphone on your camera rig. The ‘sideways’ aspect refers to the way it mounts onto a 15mm rod that attaches perpendicularly to the lens. This mounting method may be an improvement for some rigging situations where a cold-shoe mount can’t fit on a top plate. Many top handles have a mounting point for ‘sideways’ rods for EVFs or monitors.
These accessories are available on MID49.com. Their pricing is as follows:
Sony Burano EVF Pivot Adaptor $95Top Plate (Sony Burano) $299Baseline 15mm LW Baseplate $495Microphone Shock Mount (Sideways 15mm Rod) $95
