Sony FX5 Delayed Again – Sony Europe Now Lists November 16 as Shipping Date

The Sony FX5 has slipped by another month in Europe. Sony’s own online stores in the UK, France and Germany now list November 16 as the shipping date, replacing the previous October 16 target. In the US, B&H continues to take preorders at $4,898 for the body without showing an expected availability date, and Sony has still not explained the delay beyond “production-related circumstances”.

For a camera that was announced on July 22 with an August 21 release date, mid-November means a wait of almost three months beyond the original plan. Sony’s only official explanation remains the one on its Japanese website: a notice published on August 18 and updated on September 18 that postpones the launch “due to production-related circumstances” and gives the new timing as “late October or later”. The European date fits within that wording, but Sony has not issued a new statement to go with it.

What Sony’s European stores say now

The November 16 date appears on the FX5 product pages of Sony’s stores in the UK, France and Germany. All three previously showed October 16. There is no accompanying note, so the change comes without a reason attached.

The delay is not limited to the camera body. Sony Japan’s notice covers the FX5 together with the DVF-EL1 OLED viewfinder, the XLR-H2 XLR handle unit and the VMC-BNCU1 timecode adapter cable. Anyone who ordered the handle kit or the viewfinder separately is waiting on the same schedule.

And in the US?

Our US retail partner B&H lists the FX5 body at $4,898 with the status “Preorder”, and the kit with the XLR handle unit at $5,498 as “New Item – Coming Soon”. Neither page showed an expected availability date when we checked on October 6. Sony has not announced a separate US schedule, so it is unclear whether American buyers should count on mid-November as well.

Still no explanation

Sony’s public communication on the FX5 has been thin. On July 28, six days after the announcement, the company warned that orders were far exceeding expectations and that deliveries might be delayed. The August notice then shifted to “production-related circumstances” without elaborating, and those two statements have never been reconciled.

As we wrote in our look at the FX5 delay during IBC 2026, a Sony representative said on the show floor that the company had around 7,000 orders, and that anyone ordering at that point should expect delivery toward the end of the year or early 2027. That estimate assumed first shipments in mid-October. With the first batch now a month later in Europe, it is reasonable to expect later orders to move back as well, although Sony has not said so.

What buyers are waiting for

The FX5 is built around a full-frame, fully stacked sensor with roughly 16.6MP, 5K open gate recording in 3:2 (4992 x 3328), internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW and three base ISOs at 800, 4000 and 12800. At launch it records 5K up to 60p, 4K up to 120p and Full HD up to 240p; the 4K 240p mode is planned for firmware 2.0, which Sony expects from August 2027.

In Europe, Sony’s pricing stands at €5,400 for the body, €6,000 with the XLR handle, €900 for the XLR-H2 on its own and €750 for the DVF-EL1 viewfinder. If you are wondering whether the camera is worth the wait, Johnnie’s Sony FX5 review and our recent FX5 Lab Test are the places to start.
