Sony Launch CineAlta Club - A VENICE Support Resource

Sony has announced the launch of the CineAlta Club, an initiative offering support and education for the cinematography community.

Working out of Sony’s Digital Media Production Centre at Pinewood Studios, UK, comes a series of online/offline resources in the form of free training, professional support and paid courses to further educate CineAlta users.

Naturally, this would suit any crew members that use the popular Sony VENICE. Sony specifically mentions DPs, ACs and DIT as people who would benefit from the resources.

The Sony CineAlta club PR release highlights these three areas:

  • Crew Call: For crews who are using VENICE cameras, this is an opportunity to ask your questions and get support from the experts. This will be hosted online.
  • VENICE Refresher: In this two-hour session you can get up to date on the latest cinematography workflows and VENICE camera upgrades. This will be hosted online and in-person when allowed at the DMPC.
  • VENICE Accreditation: This two-day paid training course will provide DoP’s, DIT’s, Operators and AC’s with an in-depth training on VENICE cameras and production workflows to maximise on-set efficiency and creative expression. This will be hosted in-person when allowed at the DMPC.

The Crew Call will be run by Richard Lewis, Chief Engineer, and crew members can arrange online first-hand support for getting the most out of their Sony VENICE.

Government Covid-19 guidelines dependent, both the VENICE Refresher and Accreditation courses will be operating either from the aforementioned Pinewood facilities, or two-hour online sessions. They have earmarked the following dates for the refresher courses:

  • 23rd March
  • 27th April
  • 25th May
  • 29th June

You can sign up for these refresher courses here. For the VENICE accreditation courses, the following dates have been set (subject to change):

  • 9-10th March
  • 13-14th April
  • 11-12th May
  • 15-16th June
  • 13-14th July
  • 10-11th August
  • 21-22nd September
  • 12-13th October
  • 16-17th November
  • 14-15th December

You can register your interest via their newsletter here.

Later in the year, there are intentions of getting the CineAlta Club VENICE training courses on the road, again government guidelines dependent.

The idea is to get production and rental houses on board to facilitate these courses around the UK – the above newsletter will keep you up to date on this.
