Tilta Boulder Camera Cart XL Introduced – Carries up to 500kg of Gear

Tilta has just introduced a bigger, heavy-duty version of their Boulder Camera Cart. Compared to the standard model, the new Tilta Boulder Camera Cart XL offers a larger working surface, an increased maximum load capacity of 500kg, upgraded wheels, and more.

While camera carts have been used to carry gear around high-end film sets for decades, it seems that last year these tools have become “mainstream” even among small video productions and content creators. Indeed, popular brands such as SmallRig and Tilta started expanding into this market — effectively competing with well-established, specialized manufacturers such as INOVATIV, Adicam, or Film Cart, for example.

Particularly, back at IBC 2025, my colleague Nino took a closer look at Tilta’s original Boulder Camera Cart and accessories. Make sure to check out his interview, in case you missed it. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what’s new with the XL version.

Tilta Boulder Camera Cart XL – Film cart on steroids

While the original Tilta Boulder Camera Cart can already help you save your back, the new XL model is a beefed-up variant designed for the most demanding productions. The cart comes standard with a top and a bottom shelf, but can also accommodate an optional mid-level tray as well as two top locking drawers, in case you need even more storage space.

The top working surface measures 128×68 cm / 50.39×26.77”, making it roughly 40 cm/15.75” longer and 10 cm/3.94” wider than the standard model. Moreover, the maximum load capacity has been increased by a whopping 100 kg/220lb. — for a total of 500 kg/1,102lb.

The cart can withstand such a weight thanks to its high-strength steel construction that includes spine and cross-beam reinforcement to prevent deformation. This, however, comes at the expense of practicality. Indeed, the cart itself weighs an impressive 96 kg/212lb. — more than double compared to the standard model (46 kg/101lb.).

To improve stability, Tilta has increased the number of wheels to 6, while also upgrading their size from 9 to 10 inches. Handling has also been improved, with a single U-shaped handle that runs across the whole width of the cart, rather than a single, smaller handle on each side.

Finally, the XL version maintains compatibility with the already vast range of Boulder Camera Cart accessories. These include storage bins, drawers, stands, camera head mounts, monitor mounts, Steadicam mount, an extended umbrella, and more.
