CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus Released – Rugged & Waterproof SSD up to 2TB

CalDigit recently released the Tuff Nano Plus, a rugged, waterproof, and portable SSD solution that can provide up to 2TB of storage space. Ideal for filmmakers who travel a lot, the CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus’ read and write speeds allow for fast back-ups and 4K editing on the field. This new product is now available for purchase for $319.99.

No matter how careful we are with our gear, accidental damage is always around the corner. Taking care of our tools is particularly critical when important data is involved. In 2020 CalDigit, a company famous for their dock and portable storage solutions, introduced the tiny, waterproof and drop resistant Tuff nano SSD.

The new CalDigit Tuff nano Plus is built on this legacy and it expands storage space up to 2TB. Let’s take a closer look.

CalDigit Tuff nano Plus: a travel buddy

While the original Tuff nano is only available in 512 or 1024 GB sizes, the new model has a maximum storage capacity of 2TB in a pocket-size design. This feature, paired with its rugged body and high-performance speeds, meets the demands of filmmakers that often find themselves dealing with large video files while travelling.

Design: rugged, waterproof, and drop resistant

This storage drive is IP67 certified which means that its construction prevents even the smallest particles of dust from entering the device.

Moreover, it must be a pretty good swimmer. In fact, according to CalDigit it can resist being immersed in water up to 1 meter of depth for half an hour. Pretty impressive!

While dropping an SSD in water might be a rare event, dropping it on the ground is much more common. However, this SSD is not afraid of heights either since it can fall from 3 meters and still be working. Being a CalDigit products owner myself, I’m pretty confident that the build quality of this new product will meet your expectations.

Speed and connectivity

The internal drive of the Tuff nano Plus is an NVMe PCIe SSD that can be connected to your computer via a USB 3.2 Type-C cable.

This type of connection provides power to the drive and makes it compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 as well as USB4, USB-C and USB-A computers.

Moreover, if you like to browse your files or edit your stills and videos on an iPad Pro or iPad Air (4th Gen), then you will be happy to know the the Tuff nano Plus is also compatible with these devices.

Most importantly, such speeds will save you time when backing up large video files and it will also help with editing 4K videos on your laptop out in the field.
