Prolycht Orion 675 FS Explained – Powerful RGBACL COB Fixture

Prolycht Orion 675 FS is an RGBCAL full spectrum COB light that offers a wide variety of built-in effects, gels, and functions that can also be controlled via the free Prolycht app. Coming with 30° and 55° reflectors, the Orion 675 FS can be pre-ordered now for $2,795.

Last year in June, the lighting company Prolycht announced the Orion 300 FS RGBCAL LED fixture which my colleague Graham tested in the field a while ago. At this year’s NAB, Prolycht was busy as well. They introduced a much stronger FS (full spectrum) light using the same RGBCAL technology – Prolycht Orion 675 FS. We already released an article with all the specs and features of the Orion 675 FS at the time of the launch – make sure to check it out first. During the show, we met up with Mitch Gross from Prolycht on the show floor to discuss the 675 FS and its features.

Prolycht Orion 675 FS

According to Mitch, the Orion 675 FS is currently the most powerful RGB one-point-source light on the market. As opposed to RGBWW lights (such as the new Aputure LS 600c Pro for example) which use warm and cold white LEDs, Prolycht fixtures include RGBACL LEDs. ACL stands for Amber, Cyan, and Lime. That means the Orion 675 FS does not have any white LEDs and when in CCT mode, it mixes all the colors to get white output between 1,800 and 20,000K.

As Mitch told us, using the ACL light emitters instead of WW means that the Orion 675 FS has access to more colors and that it also uses the power more efficiently. The light has an industry-standard Bowens mount so it can accommodate a wide variety of accessories to shape it. In fact, the Orion 675 FS will ship with 30° and 55° reflectors. As Mitch told us, Prolycht also works on a fresnel at the moment.

The Gel Emulation mode in the Orion 675 FS requires setting the base color temperature to either 3200K (tungsten) or 5600K (daylight) and then users can choose around 330 gels from Lee or Rosco.

In addition to the classic color wheel, users can also enter XY coordinates of a certain color in the color space to choose it. Another way of setting the color tone is individual color bars, where users can set how much of each of the RGBACL colors will be emitted.

Prolycht also has a free app that can control the Orion fixture. The app also supports setting the color with a color picker after taking a photo or video with the phone’s camera. The light can playback up to 10 minutes of recorded video in a loop. Simply said, it acts as a one-pixel projector. Naturally, the Orion also has around 20 effects such as police a car, TV, faulty bulb, and so on.

Interestingly, the Orion 675 FS does not have a separate ballast. All the hardware including the power components is included in the light body. The Orion 675 FS weighs around 21 lbs (around 9.5 kg) and it has an IPX5 rating, so it features a high level of humidity resistance.

Price and availability

Prolycht Orion 675 FS can be pre-ordered right now for $2,795 (fixture only) or $3,095 with the hard transport case included. Mitch told us that the shipping is planned to begin in September 2022.
