SmallRig has just announced a complete cage kit for the newly released Canon PowerShot V10 vlogging camera. This kit includes a camera cage, two cold shoe mounts, a silicone lens cap, two furry windshields with mounting plates, and a storage bag. It is available for preorder now at $37.90.
The Canon PowerShot V10 is the company’s latest 4K vlogging camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor, built-in 3-stop ND filter, two directional microphones, a flip-up touchscreen LCD, and digital image stabilization, all in a compact and user-friendly design. If you missed it, watch our extensive talk with David Parry from Canon Europe about all the features and technical specifications of the PowerShot V10.
The PowerShot V10 was mainly designed for content creators that use the popular PowerShot G7X Mark II to shoot vlogs. The PowerShot V10 might not have all the bells and whistles of other, more expensive cameras like the Sony ZV-E1. However, as someone that used the Canon G7X series to shoot vlogs, I totally get the concept behind the PowerShot V10. Indeed, it is made to be powered on, hit record, and capture images that get the job done. If you don’t want to spend time setting up your shutter/aperture/ISO settings, it’s a very handy camera to capture daily-life footage on the go.
The PowerShot V10 is somewhat deficient in that it lacks mounting points for additional accessories like a small LED light or microphone. Out of the box, the compact vlogging camera only features one 1/4″-20 tripod mounting point at the bottom. That said, SmallRig partnered with Canon for the first time and released a cage kit specifically designed for the PowerShot V10, expanding the camera’s rigging capabilities and adding an extra layer of protection.
Let’s start by saying that this SmallRig Cage Kit for the Canon PowerShot V10 will not be available in Europe. Canon Europe has a bundle that offers a cage kit, including the camera, which you can purchase directly from them.
These are all the components included in the cage kit for the PowerShot V10:
The slide-in cage comprises “eco-friendly composite fiber material” and stainless steel, with a weight of only 42g/1.48oz. In addition, the design securely locks the PowerShot V10 inside the cage with one click and no hardware, so it’s quick and effortless to put in or take out your camera.
The cage features four 1/4″-20 mounting points: one on the left, two on the right, and one at the bottom. The SmallRig cage kit for the Canon PowerShot V10 comes with two screw-in cold shoe mounts you can attach anywhere you need them. Finally, openings around the cage won’t block the camera’s input/output ports or the camera’s built-in tabletop stand.
To attach the windshields over the two built-in mics of the Canon PowerShot V10, the SmallRig cage kit comes with two sticky circular mounting plates. These mounting plates are reusable and removable. The windshields magnetically attach to the mounting plates providing up to 20dB of wind noise reduction, according to SmallRig.
Last but not least, the Canon PowerShot V10 does not come standard with a lens cap, so the addition of a silicone lens cover by SmallRig will prevent the camera’s built-in lens from being scratched.
The SmallRig cage kit for the Canon PowerShot V10 is available for preorder now at $37.90 and should start shipping by the end of this month. As I mentioned, this kit is unavailable to purchase in Europe.
