SmallRig USB-C-Chargeable Batteries for Canon and Sony Mirrorless Cameras Introduced

SmallRig has just released rechargeable camera batteries with built-in USB Type-C ports for Canon LP-E6, Sony FZ100, and Sony NP-W235 compatible cameras/accessories. All three batteries can be charged using a regular battery charger but can also be charged using a USB-C charger, power bank, or V-Mount/Gold Mount battery in under 2.5 hours. So let’s take a closer look at these!

Chinese manufacturer SmallRig is well-known for its cost-effective camera cages, rigging solutions, and camera accessories. However, the company also entered the lighting, audio, and camera batteries market to expand its product range over the years.

This time, SmallRig is back with its first lineup of internal rechargeable camera batteries, but with a twist, since you can recharge these via their built-in USB Type-C port.

SmallRig Rechargeable USB-C Batteries – features

The SmallRig rechargeable USB-C batteries lineup consists of three models: Canon LP-E6, Sony FZ100, and Sony NP-W235. As their name suggests, all batteries feature a built-in USB Type-C port.

You can recharge all the batteries using your regular camera charger. However, the main selling point is that you can recharge them using the batteries’ USB Type-C port. All SmallRig rechargeable USB-C batteries can be charged in only 2.5 hours (5V 2.2A) using a wall charger, power bank, or the USB-C output of a V-Mount/Gold-Mount battery.

All three models have a maximum 2400 mAh capacity, which is superior to Canon’s original LP-E6NH batteries and Sony’s FZ100/NP-W235 batteries.

You’ll find a small charging indicator on all three batteries that will turn from red to green when fully charged. The SmallRig rechargeable USB-C batteries are made from polycarbonate and ABS plastic and weigh around 83g/2.92oz.

According to SmallRig, all batteries feature multiple protection against short circuits, high-voltage, high-current, high-temperature, and over-charge/over-discharge protection. Lastly, all batteries have built-in chips that are decoded and recognized by your camera as original cells.
