9.3K ACHTEL 9x7 Camera is Available for Rent in US

The ACHTEL 9×7 camera with a 9.3K global shutter image sensor is available for rental in the USA via XM2 PURSUIT. The company is providing a full-service solution including end-to-end management from planning and execution through postproduction. The camera can be rented with a range of accessories, lenses, and stabilized platforms.

Back in September 2020, we wrote about the interesting new camera from an Australia-based cinematographer and camera inventor, Pawel Achtel ACS – the ACHTEL 9×7. This camera sports an APS-H 4:3 image sensor with a native resolution of 9.3K and it recently became available for rental in the USA.

ACHTEL 9×7 – Available for Rental in the USA

ACHTEL Pty Limited – Pawel Achtel’s, ACS, company behind the camera – teamed up with XM2 PURSUIT to make the general rental of the ACHTEL 9×7 camera available. XM2 PURSUIT specializes in aerial and ground-based camera platforms and they have offices in the USA, UK, Australia, and South Korea. According to the company, the ACHTEL 9×7 camera can be rented with a range of accessories, lenses, and stabilized platforms. XM2 PURSUIT will provide end-to-end management from planning and execution through postproduction – it is, therefore, a full-service solution. ACHTEL Pty Limited claims that the camera is aimed to replace multi-camera arrays and 70mm film, and it specifically targets high-end VFX, VR, and IMAX productions.

As I wrote last year in September, ACHTEL 9×7 has an APS-H sized 4:3 BSI image sensor with a native resolution of 9.3K (65MP) and global shutter technology. It is capable of producing up to 70fps in the native resolution with a raw recording bandwidth of 10GB/s. That is a huge amount of data that should provide plenty of flexibility in postproduction. The camera features a tethered head design which makes it possible to mount it in tight spaces.

As ACHTEL states, the sensor features dual light pipe technology and true correlated double sampling, which allows very low read noise and high dynamic range. The 9×7 camera is available with a variety of lens options and mount systems including LPL, PL, and Panavision.

Price and Availability

There is no word about a day rate for the camera package at the moment. Since September 2020, we know that the camera can be bought for around $150K, but one would have to contact XM2 PURSUIT directly for an exact price quote on the rental. The price will, of course, also depend on which accessories and services come with the camera package.

What do you think about the ACHTEL 9×7 camera? When would you consider renting this camera instead of a RED Monstro, Blackmagic URSA Mini 12K, or similar high-resolution camera? Let us know in the comments section underneath the article.
