Laowa Wide Angle Zero-D Cine Lenses Now Available in Canon RF Mount

Laowa has just released three of its wide-angle close-to-zero distortion – also called Zero-D – Cine lenses in Canon RF lens mount: the Laowa 9mm T2.9 Zero-D, Laowa 15mm T2.1 Zero-D, and Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D. These lenses are compatible with the Red Komodo, Canon EOS R5 / R6, and the latest Canon EOS C70.

Laowa Wide Angle Zero-D Lenses

All the new Laowa 9mm T2.9 Zero-D, Laowa 15mm T2.1 Zero-D, and Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D cine lenses are entirely made out of metal. They all have standard 0.8 mod gears on both aperture and focus ring.

The “Zero-D” in the name of these lenses means that they are close to being distortion-free, according to Laowa.

However, none of these lenses are new. Indeed, if you missed it, we already reported earlier this year about the 9mm T2.9 Zero-D lens here that covers APS-C sensors. In a nutshell, this 9mm lens gives you an FoV of around 113°, it has a minimum focus distance of 12mm (from the sensor), a focus throw of 180°, and it has a 55mm front filter thread.

The Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D started shipping back in January this year. This lens gives you a 122 degrees field of view, it covers full-frame/Vista Vision sensors, it has a focus throw of 270° and a minimum focusing distance of 7″.

Finally, the Laowa 15mm T2.1 Zero-D cine lens covers full-frame sensors, it has a 110° FoV, the minimum focus distance is 5.9″/15cm, and the front diameter is 72mm.

Now Available in Canon RF Mount

Laowa just announced that all three of these lenses are now available in Canon RF mount. The optical design is the same as other lens mounts.

Also, all these Laowa wide-angle Zero-D cine lenses with Canon RF mount are compatible with the (long-awaited) RED Komodo and the new Canon EOS C70 cinema camera. For the Canon EOS R5/R6, the 12mm T2.9 and 15mm T2.1 should cover the Full-Frame sensor easily, which is not the case of the 9mm T2.9.

The 9mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine is also available in Fuji X, Sony E mount, and Micro Four Thirds mount. The 15mm T2.1 Zero-D Cine is available in Sony FE mount. Finally, the 12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine is available in EF, PL, Sony FE mount.

All lenses are available now. The 9mm T2.9 is $599.00, the 12mm T2.9 is $1499.00, and the 15mm T2.1 is $1,199. Every lens you purchase comes with a hard case made by Pelican.
