SIRUI Venus 150mm T2.9 1.6x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens Released

SIRUI Venus 150mm T2.9 1.6x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens Released

SIRUI, the Chinese lens manufacturer specializing in budget anamorphic lenses along with very affordable cine prime lenses, has just announced the release of the Venus 150mm T2.9 1.6x full-frame anamorphic lens. By introducing the new 150mm lens, SIRUI’s Venus line of 1.6x full-frame anamorphic lenses seems to be complete (35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 150mm).

I don’t know how the team at SIRUI does it, but it feels like not a month goes by without them announcing a new lens, and this time it’s the Venus 150mm T2.9 1.6x full-frame anamorphic lens. Earlier in July, we reviewed the set of the newly announced Nightwalker lenses, and today there is this announcement…

Venus 150mm T2.9 1.6x FF features

This 150mm telephoto anamorphic lens (equivalent to 94mm horizontally) might be suitable for portrait filming but SIRUI also managed to reduce the minimum focus distance to 0.58m (other lenses in this line are limited to a minimum focus distance of 1 meter). So all in all, getting closer to your subject for impressive close-ups is now possible without the need for additional lens adapters.

When shooting 3:2, this lens offers a 2.4:1 aspect ratio, and when using it on a 16:9 sensor, you will get a wider 2.8:1 aspect ratio.

As a side note, although some manufacturers like Atomos, CVW, Hollyland, and FEELWORLD are now supporting a 1.6x de-squeeze ratio in their monitors, it is a less common ratio with camera manufacturers, so de-squeezing your image properly while filming is not always guaranteed. One possible solution is to use the company’s 1.25x anamorphic adapter in order to achieve a 2x squeeze.

According to SIRUI, in order to maintain consistency across the Venus lens line, the lenses are all designed with matched color tones, consistent blue lens flares, oval bokeh, and similar features. All of these lenses also utilize identical gear positions and a uniform front 82mm filter thread.

When it comes to lens mounts, Sony E, Canon/RED RF, Nikon Z, and LEICA/Panasonic/SIGMA L-mount are being offered.

Last but not least, the lens length is about 178mm/7.01inch and the weight is about 1385g/3.05lb.
